ImmiAccount

ImmiAccount is the Department of Home Affairs online account used to lodge and manage visa applications. These steps follow the Department’s own pages, in plainer words. Never share your username, password or login codes with anyone, including a friend, an agent or a lawyer. We will never ask you for them.

Checked against the Department of Home Affairs pages listed below on 22-10-2026.

Individual or organisation account

There are two types. An individual account is for an applicant, a family member acting for an applicant, or a friend helping with the application. An organisation account is for people who work for an organisation, registered migration agents and people from a sponsoring company. An organisation account is not active until the Department, or your organisation’s account administrator, approves it.

Create an individual ImmiAccount

  1. Go to the ImmiAccount page and select “Create an ImmiAccount”.

  2. Enter your email address.

  3. Enter the verification code the Department emails to you.

  4. Select “Individual”, enter your details, then select “Continue”.

  5. Enter your account details. Read and accept the ImmiAccount terms and conditions, tick “I am not a robot”, then select “Submit”.

  6. Set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) when you are asked. Follow the on-screen instructions, then select “Continue” on the “Login successful” page. From then on you enter a 6-digit code each time you log in.

Create an organisation ImmiAccount

  1. Go to the ImmiAccount page and select “Create an ImmiAccount”.

  2. Enter your email address, then the verification code the Department emails to you.

  3. Select “Organisation”. Tick the services you need and give your reason for each one.

  4. Enter your details and select “Continue” to reach page 2 of the form.

  5. Enter the account details, read and accept the terms and conditions, tick “I am not a robot”, then select “Submit”.

  6. Set up multi-factor authentication when you are asked, following the on-screen instructions.

  7. Wait for approval. Your organisation’s account administrator approves online lodgement requests first. Otherwise the Department approves the account, usually within 4 working days. Until then the account stays an individual account.

Change an individual account to an organisation account

If you created an individual account but need organisation services, you can ask for a change. Tick “Online Lodgement” if the account already holds applications, or you will lose access to them when the account type changes.

  1. Log in to ImmiAccount.

  2. Select “Manage Account”, then “Request access”.

  3. Under “Request additional services”, select the organisation services you need and give your reason for each.

  4. Enter your organisation details and select “Submit”.

  5. Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app or email, then select “Submit”.

  1. Go to ImmiAccount and enter your username and password.

  2. Select “Login”.

  3. Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app and select “Submit”.

  • You cannot change or re-use a username, even if you delete the account.
  • If you enter your username or password wrongly 5 times, the account locks for 4 hours.

Change your password

The Department suggests changing it every 180 days for an individual account and every 90 days for an organisation account.

  1. Log in to ImmiAccount and select “Manage Account”.

  2. Select the “Password” tab.

  3. Enter your current password, then your new password twice.

  4. Select “Save”.

  5. Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app or email, then select “Submit”.

Change your email address

  1. Log in to ImmiAccount and select “Manage Account”.

  2. Select the “Account Details” tab.

  3. Enter your new email address and select “Save”. A verification code is sent to the new address.

  4. Enter the verification code and select “Verify”.

  5. Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app or email, then select “Submit”.

  • If the verification code is not entered correctly, the change is not saved and the account keeps the old email address.

Change your secret questions and answers

  1. Log in to ImmiAccount and select “Manage Account”.

  2. Select the “Secret questions” tab and enter your password.

  3. Choose your new secret questions and enter your new answers.

  4. Select “Save”.

  5. Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app or email, then select “Submit”.

  • If you have forgotten your secret questions and answers and cannot get into the account, the Department says you need to contact it.

If you forget your username

  1. Go to the ImmiAccount login page and select “I have forgotten my ImmiAccount username”.

  2. Enter the email address linked to your username and tick “I am not a robot”.

  3. Select “Next”.

  4. Check your email. The message lists the usernames of all accounts that use that email address. Check your spam or junk folder if it does not arrive.

If you forget your password

  1. On the ImmiAccount login page, select “I have forgotten my ImmiAccount password”.

  2. Enter your username and tick “I am not a robot”, then select “Next”.

  3. Check your email for the message with the recovery link, and select the link. You only receive it if the username is correct and the account is active.

  4. Answer your secret questions correctly to get back into the account.

  • The Department cannot email you a temporary password. If you cannot answer your secret questions, contact the Department.

If you lose access to your authenticator app

  1. On the login page, select “I no longer have access to my multi-factor authentication app”.

  2. Enter your username, tick “I am not a robot” and select “Next”.

  3. Follow the instructions sent to your registered email to reset MFA. You will need your password and the answers to your secret questions, and you will set MFA up again.

  • If you cannot use an authenticator app for a short time, you can choose email authentication when you log in. The Department notes that email is less secure than an authenticator app.
  • If no email arrives, the Department lists likely causes: a typing mistake, an address that is no longer valid, or an address that does not match the one on the account. If you can no longer open that email account, you need to contact the Department.

If something has gone wrong with your application

A missed deadline, a request you do not understand, a refusal or a cancellation can be hard to deal with alone. If that has happened, talk to a lawyer before you reply to the Department.
