482 Skills in Demand Visa
482 Core Skills Stream
The Core Skills stream is the primary stream of the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482), designed for workers nominated in eligible occupations across healthcare, engineering, information technology, trades, and education. It replaced the former TSS short-term and medium-term streams from 7 December 2024.
Occupation eligibility and salary
Nominations under the Core Skills stream must be in an occupation listed on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL). The CSOL is reviewed by Jobs and Skills Australia in response to labour market data and is updated periodically. Applicants should confirm occupation eligibility against the current list before the employer lodges a nomination.
The nominated position must meet or exceed the Core Skills Income Threshold of $76,515, indexed annually. It must also meet or exceed the Annual Market Salary Rate for the occupation and location. The higher of the two thresholds applies.
The applicant must have at least one year of relevant full-time work experience within the last five years. Vocational English is required. A skills assessment may be required for certain trade occupations. The employer must conduct labour market testing before lodging the nomination.
Core Skills Occupation List
All nominations must be in an occupation on the CSOL. The list covers 456 occupations across healthcare, engineering, IT, trades, education, and other sectors. Verify your occupation before lodgement as the list is updated periodically.
Salary threshold
The Core Skills Income Threshold is $76,515, indexed annually. The salary must also meet the Annual Market Salary Rate for the occupation and location. The higher of the two applies.
Work experience
At least one year of relevant full-time work experience in the nominated occupation or a closely related field within the last five years. This is reduced from the two-year requirement under the former TSS visa.
Labour market testing
The employer must demonstrate genuine efforts to recruit an Australian worker before lodging the nomination. Advertisements must have been active for at least 28 days within four months of lodgement.
