Australasian Veterinary Boards Council (AVBC)

An AVBC application is a checklist exercise before it is an assessment. Applicants must answer yes to three questions on the readiness page: the degree is on AVBC’s list of generally recognised qualifications, the applicant holds full registration without conditions with a state or territory veterinary board, and AVBC’s English language standards are met. The English standards accept only in person tests, not online or at home sittings, and offer three education based pathways that avoid a test altogether, each evidenced through an English Language Education Evidence Form.

Document handling is prescriptive. The readiness page calls for at least three forms of identification including the passport biopage, a photograph taken within the past 12 months, colour scans of originals above 300 dpi in PDF, one document per file named with its content and the applicant’s surname. Certified copies must carry the words “certified true copy of the original” plus the certifier’s name, address, registration number and contact details. Applications are lodged through the AVBC application portal, and most are processed within five weeks of complete documents and payment.

A suitable outcome is usually valid for three years from issue, and AVBC offers a renewal at a reduced fee to anyone who held a suitable assessment within the last three years, lodged before the current outcome expires. The renewal does not ask for every earlier document again, can take in additional qualifications or employment claims, and may take up to five weeks. Veterinary nurses are outside AVBC’s remit and are directed to VETASSESS on the skills assessment overview; an agent acting for an applicant attaches a signed Department of Home Affairs Form 956.
