Assessment requirements
Two-stage assessment model
AOPA conducts a two-stage assessment of competence rather than a single documentary review. Stage 1 is a Review of Eligibility, and Stage 2 is a Portfolio of Evidence. The two stages together establish whether the applicant meets the required standard.
Eligibility and evidence requirements
Stage 1 reviews the applicant's eligibility against the entry requirements for the profession. Stage 2 requires a Portfolio of Evidence demonstrating competence in practice. All fees are non-refundable, so applicants should confirm eligibility before committing.
Staged process and location-based fees
Stage 2 is attempted only after Stage 1 is satisfied and carries a separate fee of $1,447.60 for applicants overseas. Fees differ by applicant location, with higher charges for applicants in Australia. The staged structure means costs accrue progressively.
Outcome validity
AOPA does not state a validity period for its outcome. The general Department of Home Affairs rule applies, under which a skills assessment is ordinarily usable for three years from the date of issue. Confirm currency before lodging a visa application.

Occupation confirmation
We confirm the correct CSOL occupation title and the designated assessing authority for your specific role before you apply, avoiding the cost of an incorrect application.
Application preparation
A complete, well-prepared application reduces the risk of delay or adverse outcome. We advise on documentation requirements, employment reference content, and how to present your qualifications and experience.
