408 — Australian Government Endorsed Event

408 Covid-19 Pandemic Event

The Covid-19 Pandemic Event was an Australian Government Endorsed Event created during the pandemic period to allow visa holders who were stranded in Australia and unable to return to their home countries to remain lawfully. This arrangement has now concluded. It no longer provides a basis for new applications.

The pandemic visa arrangement

The Australian Government endorsed the Covid-19 Pandemic as an event for the purposes of the Temporary Activity visa (subclass 408). This allowed visa holders who were in Australia when the pandemic began and could not safely return home to remain lawfully by applying for or extending a subclass 408 visa under the Endorsed Event stream.

This arrangement was a temporary measure reflecting the extraordinary circumstances of the pandemic period. The Covid-19 Pandemic Event endorsement has now concluded. Visa holders who relied on this arrangement must have transitioned to another visa by now or departed Australia.

If you held a subclass 408 Covid-19 visa and your circumstances have not resolved, or if you are seeking to understand what options remain available to you, contact Visa Plan for advice on your current status and available pathways.
