Changes to the Temporary Graduate Visa Program Effective 1 July 2024

Overview

Starting 1 July 2024, the Australian Government will implement changes to the Temporary Graduate visa (Subclass 485) as part of its Migration Strategy.
Stream Re-alignment
  • Post-Vocational Education Work Stream: For associate degrees, diplomas, and trade qualifications related to the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). Maximum age: 35 (50 for Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders).
  • Post-Higher Education Work Stream: For bachelor’s degrees or higher. Maximum age: 35 (50 for certain graduates and passport holders).
  • Second Post-Higher Education Work Stream: Renamed from Second Post-Study Work stream with no other changes.
  • Replacement Stream: Will cease.

Stay Periods

  • Bachelor’s degrees: Up to 2 years.
  • Master’s degrees: Up to 2 years (3 years for research).
  • Doctoral degrees: Up to 3 years.
  • Special conditions for Hong Kong, British National Overseas passport holders, and Indian nationals under AI-ECTA.
