The Department of Home Affairs has made significant announcement today that the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) will increase from current $53,900 to $70,000 from 1 July 2023.
This means employers looking to sponsor overseas workers will need to pay an annual salary of $70,000 as the bare minimum in addition to the statutory superannuation contribution to prospective candidates.
This sudden and dramatic change will affect many small businesses who are already experiencing chronic labour shortage. This will undoubtedly have extremely adverse effects on our economy and cost of living.
