Construction businesses operating in Western Australia have the opportunity to benefit from the Construction Visa Subsidy Program (CVSP). To apply for the CVSP, you will need to follow the steps as summarized below.

Milestone 1 Claims for Six (6) or More Skilled Migrants:
- Complete the CVSP Employer Sponsored Stream Milestone 1 form.
- Agree to the terms and conditions of the CVSP.
- Provide evidence of your registration as a sponsor with the Department of Home Affairs.
- Draft a comprehensive business plan that demonstrates the necessity for additional skilled workers, including details about the occupations in which your sponsored skilled migrants will be employed.
- Draft your strategies and plans for onboarding and supporting the skilled migrants you intend to sponsor.

Step 2: Identifying and Connecting with Skilled Migrants
If you have not yet identified a skilled migrant you wish to sponsor, the next step is to register your details to gain access to the Skilled Migrant Employment Register (SMER). The SMER is an online registry to connect employers with skilled migrants actively seeking employment opportunities in WA. It provides information about their preferred occupation, current location, and employment intentions. For additional support during the visa application process, you may also consider engaging the services of Immigration Lawyers.
Step 3: Becoming an Standard Business Sponsor
This step involves becoming an official sponsor through the Department of Home Affairs.
Step 4: Select the Appropriate Visa for Your Skilled Migrant
Once you have successfully become a sponsor, the next phase entails collaborating with your chosen skilled migrant and/or a Migration Agent to determine the most suitable visa category for the individual(s) concerned. The nomination and visa applications must be lodged at this stage.
Step 5: Claim Your Second Payment with Milestone 2
Once the visa(s) have been approved and granted, you are eligible to receive a second payment under the CVSP. To do so, complete the Milestone 2 Claim Form.
Step 6: Claim Your Final Payment with Milestone 3
After your skilled migrant has commenced employment with your organization and received the first payslip, you can claim for your final payment by completing and submitting the Milestone 3 Claim Form.
